In the past few months there has been a lot of focus on the benefits of going vegan with more and more meat and dairy free options making their way into shops and restaurants. Whether for your health, the health of the planet or animal welfare, there is a smoothie recipe designed to meet your needs.
Even if you are not vegan, these smoothies can be a good way to have a tasty and healthy treat whilst avoiding the negative environmental impact, high levels of saturated fat, cholesterol and antibiotics that can be found cows’ milk.
WAKE AND SHAKE SMOOTHIE
The ‘wake and shake’ smoothie is great way to start the day with as it provides us with a healthy mix of the necessary vitamins, healthy fats, fibre and proteins that help us to kick our body into action and leave you feeling full.
For those who like to have a smoothie before a gym session, we would recommend that you add a tablespoon of your preferred protein powder (naturally, we recommend that your protein powder be made from hemp).
• 250 ml unsweetened almond milk (coconut or oat milk can also be used)
• 1 ripe banana or nectarine
• 125ml chopped mango, fresh or frozen
• 2 large handfuls of baby spinach
• 30 ml pumpkin seeds
• 30 ml sunflower seeds
• Your desired dose of CBD oil (we recommend half a pipette per person per serving)
• optional: 1 tablespoon of protein powder + 60ml water
Dietary Requirements: Gluten free, Soy free, No added sugar, Raw, Vegetarian, Vegan, Nut free option
• Measuring jug
To get started, simply place your ingredients into your blender and switch it on to the highest setting for 1 to 2 minutes or until a smooth texture is achieved. Feel free to play around with the texture of the smoothie by adding more fruit to thicken it up or more liquid to reduce the thickness. This recipe will produce approximately 500ml of juice.
